About Branching Out

Branching Out is a not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and neuro-affirming space for young people who may need additional support with their wellbeing. Our mission is to help individuals develop a positive understanding of their neurodivergent minds while thriving in an environment tailored to their unique strengths.

We recognise the challenges many children face in traditional education systems, particularly those who feel misunderstood or overwhelmed by sensory input, rigid routines, or social expectations. For neurodivergent students, including those with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Tourette’s, and other profiles, the standard classroom can feel limiting and even distressing.

At Branching Out, we embrace unconventional, student-led approaches to learning that prioritise creativity, problem-solving, and wellbeing. By stepping away from rigid structures, we empower our students to explore their interests, build confidence, and unlock their full potential.

Our setting is rooted in a love for animals and a deep appreciation for neurodiversity, driven by my lived experience and academic expertise. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Zoology, a Level 3 teaching qualification, and I have just completed a master’s degree in Autism at the University of Birmingham. As someone with an ADHD brain, my studies have not only deepened my professional knowledge but also helped me better understand myself—and, most importantly, how to support neurodivergent young people and their families.

Our Specialist Outreach Service supports young people who may feel overwhelmed leaving home, by meeting them where they feel safest—their own space. With a trauma-informed, neuro-affirming approach, our trained team builds trust gently and at the individual’s pace, sometimes with the help of Dexter, our therapy dog. We focus on emotional safety first, offering empathy and zero pressure. When ready, students are supported to gradually access our nature-based farm hub, helping them build confidence, explore emotions, and develop trust in others—empowering them to move forward in their own time.
